F Series - FRR 500 and FRR 600
Owner of GLX Transport, Gabriel Xiberras, has been using Isuzus for 18 years. Subcontracting short haul deliveries to Mulford Plastics, GLX Transport delivers plastic sheet, film and roll products to customers in metropolitan Sydney and surrounds.
Starting out in 1995 as a sole trader, Gabriel’s first truck was a preloved 1989 NPR 400 flat top, purchased from his brother with 380,000 km on the clock.
According to Gabriel, the NPR never caused a problem and ran like clockwork. However as the business grew, in 2001, GLX Transport upgraded to a brand new FRR 500 with a custom-built curtain sider body. The NPR 400 was sold to Gabriel’s father for use on the family farm at 740,000 km.
The FRR 500 was chosen for the weight it could carry and as it could accommodate the size of body that was required. Gabriel was the only person to drive the new truck and serviced it every 5,000 km.
In 2011, a second truck was required – an Isuzu FRR 600 with another curtain sider body. Gabriel said he is extremely happy with the overall package.
“Reliability is everything in this industry and without Isuzu I would not be able to sleep so soundly. They are tough enough to handle any workload without missing a beat, day in day out, and just as importantly, any driver we put in them. When I have a new driver start, most have also been surprised at the level of comfort and ease of driving when they first sit in the Isuzus. Many have said they drive like a car. The FRR 500 is still going strong and has
clocked up 582,000 km. The FRR 600 has done 97,000 km and is also serviced every 5,000 km. The old NPR 400 left the family in 2008 with 800,000 km on the clock, still going as strong as ever,” Gabriel said.
